The deep blues club put on its first gig on Tuesday 14 July 1998 at York Arts Centre, a converted church, in Micklegate, York, England. It featured Chicago house-rockers Neil Dalton and the Blue Aces, a locally based four-piece band fronted by one of the founders of the club. The resident band, the Blue Aces have graced the deep blues stage several times over the years.

Neil Dalton, along with co-founders Pete Simmons and Tony Clarke, conceived the idea of a York blues club sometime in late 1997 or early 1998. They had all met in the late 80s at blues gigs in the small back room of the John Bull pub on York’s Layerthorpe where the Acme Blues Company >>
